NexTrak Performance Testing

Field testing of the NexTrak receiver results in more detections and greater range

In 2023, Innovasea introduced the NexTrak R1, a 69 kHz acoustic receiver designed to improve detection efficiency and range in high-noise environments. This white paper explores one of the many field studies that Innovasea conducted to test the system’s performance.

The study, conducted in Sydney Harbor’s high-noise environment with Australia’s Integrated Marine Observing System (IMOS), used drift and static range testing to compare the performance of two 69 kHz receivers: the NexTrak R1 and the VR2AR.

When compared, the NexTrak R1 receiver significantly outperformed the VR2AR, more effectively handling the high-noise environment that is traditionally challenging for 69kHz technology.

Adding just one NexTrak R1 receiver to the study array increased overall detection efficiency by 59%, showing its potential to enhance the performance of existing systems.
